Wedding color motif: using a color palette

Writer's picture: pausiopaopausiopao

I think when someone plans for a wedding, the first thing he/she normally visualize is the color motif. But sadly, I noticed some wedding with colors that are not pleasing to the eyes. It's either a bad color combination or the wedding itself is dominated by only one color. Bear in mind that incorporating a color palette will not only balance the overall tone of the wedding but will also give a good vibe to the guests. So in this topic, I will be pointing out some ideas for those who are considering which colors to select and those that are totally not acceptable.

Color combinations to avoid

If orange & black wedding is what you have in mind, maybe you're not yet out of the Halloween mood. It might look pleasing to your eyes but guests might think that they are in a scary movie set.

A yellow & red combo are two bright colors clashing with each other. It may look like your a McDonald's kid. But if you really wanted to use these, try to add few more colors in order to make a palette that will tone down the brightness of these two.

Three distinct colors in a wedding shows that you might have a bright personality that's why you have chosen this. But too much of these all over your reception might suggest that you are having a kid's party.

Nowhere in my wildest dreams will I ever use this combo. Orange and bright green is a definite no-no for me. I don't know how to explain it but there are a lot of colors out there, please don't pick this one.

I think its the brightness of these two colors that made it unpleasant to the eyes. Actually, if you will choose the pastel version of these, then I will have to agree with your choice.

Best wedding color palettes

The soft pastel color of both the dusty rose and green makes it pleasing to the eyes. It shouts simplicity with a hint of elegance especially if coupled with free flowing cloth for dresses and linens.

We were actually aiming to have Dusty blue in our own wedding but we had difficulty in finding a cheaper cloth here in Dubai. But i must say that this color is the trend since last year. Adding up silver to the palette complements the dusty blue and makes the guests to have a feeling of a cool ambiance.

I think you can never go wrong with Navy blue. That was our final pick including the silver in our wedding color palette. For bridesmaids, wearing a blue dress makes you look thinner and brighter.

The colors look so cute together. It makes me feel as if a very young couple is getting married. It might be a good option for a summer or beach wedding.

How cool is this plum + lavender + greenery combination? The soft pastel colors made these blend with each other thus it complements well. I can definitely suggest this to my sister's wedding. 😊

This palette is the definition of "class". A touch of shades of red gives us some hint about the love between the couple.

Don't forget the rustic vibe in these colors. It magnifies the simplicity of the couple but still gives a sense of elegance.

Best advice

Go for pastel colors, you will never go wrong with that as combining these colors does not make them clash. It's best to choose 4-5 colors that you can incorporate all over the wedding. Yes, you might have a good navy blue color motif but who would want a navy blue dressed bridesmaid, navy blue wedding cake, navy blue table linens, chair cloth and so on. Now, that is a lot of exaggeration. If you are in doubt with your chosen colors, try to ask opinion from your relatives or friends so that you might have an idea of what guests would think about your choice of colors (not that the guests rule over your wedding). I hope this topic gave you an insight regarding your wedding planning.
